Scattered

Acts 8:1   “On that day a great persecution broke out against the church at Jerusalem, and all except the apostles were scattered throughout Judaea and Samaria.”

We Moderns are comfortable and feel safe. Can you imagine being driven from your home never to return.  With no car you are forced to carry by hand what little you could gather and cram into a backpack or onto a child’s wagon? Yet.

We are so healthy because of the great medical care from our doctors and hospitals. Can you imagine going to a dermatologist for an itchy scalp and she tells you, “I want to examine that patch more carefully.“  Ten days later you find out that you have stage four cancer with just months to live. Yet.

We feel safe in our cars, though we are traveling 100 feet per second, a speed that would astonish anyone from 1776. In one moment, a person on his cell phone decides to cut over three lanes to an offramp. Within seconds, we are hanging upside down from our seatbelts on the frontage road listening to the drip of gasoline on the hot engine. Yet.

Yet, the Bible says God allows these things to happen, and we are to be joyful for the good and the bad in our life. How could this be? How is that even possible?

Acts 8:4   “Those who were scattered preached the Gospel wherever they went.”

God brings us through each experience teaching us something new. Every encounter leaves us with an understanding which we can share with others. No matter what has happened, we can smile and share the love of Christ with those who are going through the same joys and challenges we did. God will bring them to us or bring us to them. He has purpose in all of our experiences.
